David Hume statue, Lawnmarket
David Hume statue, Lawnmarket
Statue erected in honour of one of the leading thinkers of the 18th-century Scottish Enlightenment. Sculptor Sandy Stoddart's portrayal of him in ancient Graeco-Roman attire may be intended to invoke the "Athens of the North", but, were he with us today, I'm sure the real David Hume would walk past it without recognising himself.
