Gatehouse, Ashes Field
Gatehouse, Ashes Field
This little gatehouse stands on a bridge over a rectangular moated area, once the garden of the nearby Bishop's Manor House and now the municipal tennis courts and bowling green. The gatehouse has medieval stonework in the lower courses, but the battlements, roof etc. are early 20th century.
Water was pumped from the moat to put out a fire in the church in the 1920's.
