George and the gate
George and the gate
Wedged very close up to the old gate - see ST5393 : Leaning for a little support for a look at how close they are.

There was a hotel on this site since about 1620, a Margaret Clayton is credited as opening it; it was later a coaching house. However a devastating fire destroyed it in 1896 which lead to its rebuilding three years afterwards.
