The Borders Railway Works at Bowshank Tunnel
The Borders Railway works are well underway to reinstate 30 miles of line between Edinburgh and Tweedbank near Galashiels with a projected completion date of summer 2015. This view of the south portal shows the tunnel entrance blocked off with plywood sheeting. One-way bat flaps and bat pipes have been installed to allow bats to leave before works start in the tunnel. Bat boxes provided in nearby trees are already being used by a small number of bats. No breeding or hibernation roosts were discovered in the tunnel.
