Petts Wood: Petts Wood Junction
Petts Wood: Petts Wood Junction
This is the former South Eastern Railway main line looking south-eastwards towards Petts Wood station. The junction was created in 1902 by the construction of the Bickley Loop lines connecting the South Eastern Railway with the former London, Dover and Chatham Railway. The Down Loop line joins the main line on the left while the Up Loop line leaves the main line on the right. The junction was known as Orpington Junction until 1928 when Petts Wood station was built. It was then renamed in accordance with the standard railway practice of naming a junction after its closest station.

The railway was built as a swathe here through Towncourt Wood.
