Dover Gill Lower Cave entrance
Dover Gill Lower Cave entrance
The lower entrance to Dover Gill Lower Cave which was discovered and explored by members of the Gritstone club between 1982 and 1984. The cave extends for 376m and has four entrances SD7594 : Spindletree Cave, Dover Gill and is linked hydrologically to the nearby Dover Gill Upper Cave (length 514m), also a Gritstone discovery from the same era. Remoteness from the regular caving areas of the Dales accounts for its relatively recent exploration and ensures few visitors. My own visit was some twenty years ago and I recall struggling to emerge from this tight vertical slot, having to remove my wetsuit jacket. The water resurges just a few metres away.
