Opened in 1892 by the Glasgow and South Western Railway, this replaced an earlier station on a more easterly track alignment that had been opened in 1859 (needs confirmation) by the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway, and closed on the same day that this station opened.
