Grand Union Canal: River Great Ouse overflow weir
Grand Union Canal: River Great Ouse overflow weir
Overflow weirs allow excess water in the canal to drain off into the river system. This one drains off into the River Great Ouse and is locally at the bottom of the canal system because boats go upwards in the distant locks in each direction.

This corner on the canal marks the end of an approximate 700 metre long reach where the canal, following the contour line, heads northwards as it generally goes southwards towards London.
