Spital High Cottages - renovated
Spital High Cottages - renovated
The houses seen here were derelict (but not ruined) just a few years ago - see LinkExternal link. The green track in front of the cottages is of course the old rail bed of the Stainmore Railway which had been, at the Stainmore Gap, the highest summit of any English railway.
(Note:At first it was thought that the old buildings on this site had been removed and new ones constructed, but examining images taken in 2010 it's clear that the original ones still stand, now made habitable again.)
