Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, from the train
Seen from a train heading towards Clapham Junction via Battersea Park station; upper left can be seen the new viaduct carrying the line towards Brixton, while below it pass lower-level lines that previously gave access to various goods yards and are now used mostly for stock movements.
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home
Originally the "Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs", established in Holloway in 1860 by Mrs Mary Tealby. The home moved to Battersea in 1871.
In 2002, the name was changed from "The Battersea Dogs Home" to "The Battersea Dogs and Cats Home" (cats were first admitted in 1883).
