Entrance from an older time
Entrance from an older time
The distinctive entrance to St Mary's is dated to about the eleventh century (and possibly built at the time of the castle), but many subsequent additions and alterations have given this church a mixed appearance. However, the entrance is a fine example of the masons' craft - see ST5393 : Norman style - and ST5393 : St Mary's benchmark for some benchmarks.
