Delayed At Carlisle
Delayed At Carlisle
Class 81, 81017, has been standing in the through road at Carlisle for too long with its train of tanks and the driver is leaving the cab to telephone the signalman for an explanation.

The class 81's were the first production type of AC electric locomotive for British Railways and were introduced as part of the Euston to Crewe electrification scheme. Originally classified as AL1 and built by AEI, the first locomotive entered service in December 1959. The locomotives had a continuous rating of 3200hp. All of the class were withdrawn by 1991.
