St Cecilia's Hall
St Cecilia's Hall
Designed by Robert Mylne and built in 1761-3 by George Paterson for the Musical Society of Edinburgh, this gem is well hidden by later additions and other buildings. It was bought by the Grand Lodge in 1809, and then acquired by the University of Edinburgh. It was restored in 1966-1968. It is the oldest purpose-built concert hall in Scotland, and second oldest in the United Kingdom (the oldest being SP5106 : The Holywell Music Room).
