SO6204 : The River Lyd at Norchard

taken 5 years ago, near to Lydney, Gloucestershire, Great Britain

The River Lyd at Norchard
The River Lyd at Norchard
Looking downstream from the bridge leading to the Norchard Steam Centre on the Dean Forest Railway. The water entering from the right is the Norchard Drain, from colliery workings between Norchard and Pillowell, with a flow of about 20000 litres/min. all year round. The colour is due to iron oxide, from the ironstone layers it passes through. SO6204 : Norchard Drain
