SD8798 : Walled lane above Thwaite

taken 4 years ago, near to Angram, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Walled lane above Thwaite
Walled lane above Thwaite
This is the highest section of the lane that Pennine Way walkers meet as they drop into Swaledale from Great Shunner Fell. The lane provided access to Moor Close Farm and the enclosed pastures around, and also to the open moor above, where stock could graze in the summer, whilst peat and coal could be collected for use in the village. See also David Brown's photo of the old coal tip further up the fellside.
