SP8738 : Grand Union Canal: Bridge Number 84

taken 4 years ago, near to Woolstone, Milton Keynes, Great Britain

Grand Union Canal: Bridge Number 84
Grand Union Canal: Bridge Number 84
There has been a farmers' accommodation bridge here, taking tracks west out of the old village of Great Woolstone, since the canal was built around 1800. However this is not the original structure as this one has a stone tablet in the parapet inscribed 1937. Despite its comparatively recent age it appears to be in a dire structural state. Several major vertical cracks have been infilled but a new crack has opened up on the left side of the arch.

Today the bridge forms a link between the Woolstone and Springfield areas of Milton Keynes.
