Track to the sea banks
Track to the sea banks
The line of trees marks the old Roman Sea Bank (Gothic lettering on the map), whilst between the trees can be seen the present day sea bank.
The old sea bank runs 300 metres parallel to the sea defences built around the end of the 1800s, and 1000 metres behind the reclaimed land of the 1960`s. Sections of it can be found the length of this coast from Skegness to Fosdyke and beyond. Ironically, just to the south of this section, the new defences have been breached to allow the sea back in again, for the purposes of creating a wetland habit (sea marsh) for the birds.
