NO3409 : Cults Kirk

Cults Kirk
Cults Kirk
A plain little kirk rebuilt in 1793 with a small birdcage bellcote on the west gable. What brought me here was its connection with the famous Scottish painter Sir David Wilkie RA, whose father was a minister at Cults. David was born in the adjacent manse in 1785. Following the rapid decline in church attendance over the past half century a question mark now hangs over its future. It currently shares its minister with nearby Ladybank and Kingskettle, and Sunday services take place by rota. Hopefully, its historical and cultural significance will save it. LinkExternal link
