Interior of the Shale Bing
Interior of the Shale Bing
The big bing is almost like a miniature mountain landscape. This is the result of removal of much of the material from the centre of the bing, leaving a high rim round the outside. Bings are generally popular with off-road bikers, and this one was no exception, but since I was last here the main access track has been fairly effectively obstructed by huge boulders, so it was quiet and devoid of bikes here today. However there was plenty of evidence that they had been here, in the form of tracks and wheel ruts.
