Across to Orford Ness
Across to Orford Ness
View across the River Alde to the former radio transmitting station on Orford Ness.

The installation was originally built for an experimental over-the-horizon radar station known as Cobra Mist. The radar never worked satisfactorily and the project was scrapped in 1973.

In the 1980s the site was used to transmit BBC World Service on medium wave. These transmissions ended in 2011.
