Memorial to the Hindlea
Memorial to the Hindlea
On 27 October 1959, the freighter MV Hindlea which was lying at anchor off Moelfre was caught in a 100 mph storm, which pushed it onto the rocks below this point. The Moelfre lifeboat was launched and succeeded in rescuing all 8 crew, a feat for which the coxwain, Richard Evans, was awarded an RNLI Gold Medal (see SH5186 : Statue to Coxswain Richard Evans). The rescue is commemorated by this memorial.

By coincidence, the rescue was 100 years almost to the day after, and in virtually the same spot as, the wreck of the Royal Charter (see SH5186 : Memorial to the Royal Charter).
