To Craven Arms and Clun-Bishops Castle, Shropshire
The old style sign still points the now superseded way. From 1865 - 1935 there was a Bishops Castle Railway but it was never a great success, spending much of its time in the hands of administrators. Bishops Castle was one of the so-called Rotten Boroughs. A Rotten Borough was a borough where, prior to the Reform Act 1832, there were very few voters and one person or family could exert undue influence over the election of an MP (Member of Parliament).
