Grand Union Canal: Southlands Farm Winding Hole
Grand Union Canal: Southlands Farm Winding Hole
A winding hole is a deliberately widened reach of the canal that enables long narrowboats to turn through 180 degrees. Usually these are found next to old wharves where working boats might have had a reason to need to turn, but there never was a wharf here and this is one is modern, not even being shown on the 1970s large scale Ordnance Survey mapping.
