Large floppy fungi (Clitocybe sp. ?)
Large floppy fungi (Clitocybe sp. ?)
The fungi in this photo and SP9308 : Unidentified fungus in Roundhill Wood have as yet eluded my attempts at identification. They look to me like they may be a species of the large Clitocybe genus, but I have not yet found one that really matches them.
They were on the ground away from any noticeable rotting material such as logs, but there may well have been such a food source beneath the ground of course.
Their cap diameter ranged from about 4" to 6" (10-15cm) and they had creamy-white gills (more evident in the other photo).
I would welcome any suggestions as to their identity.
