This is the ancient boundary between the parishes of Mynachloglog-ddu (left) and Llanfyrnach (right). Brown moorland to the left and green pasture to the right reflects the contrasting settlement histories of the two parishes which is also obvious on the OS 1:25,000 map. The whole upland was originally common, until Llanfyrnach and adjacent parishes to the east were divided by the Parliamentary Enclosures of the early 19th century, resulting in a regimented field and small-holding pattern. Mynachlog-ddu remained common, and settlement consisted of scattered ad-hoc enclosures of the more manageable parts of the peaty moor, and much of the land still remains unenclosed today.
