St Mary's church, Manby

St Mary’s church consists of a chancel, nave, north porch and an embattled western tower with four pinnacles. The base of the tower houses the vestry, kitchen and toilet. The pinnacles were restored in 1851.
A new organ, the gift of a Mr G Bristow was built in 1862. Later another organ was put in the church above the vestry. This came from a redundant church in Lincoln with the help of the RAF while St Mary’s was the RAF church.
In 1889 the chancel was rebuilt and enlarged from designs by the late Sir Arthur Bloomfield MA, ARA, FSA, and the chancel arch restored at a total cost of £627. The chancel was rebuilt on the original foundations with walls in bands of greenstone and limestone.

An impressive late Anglo Saxon slab, 26in x 19in with rope moulding along the edges and a symmetrical pattern of interlace in figures of eight is displayed in the north wall of the chancel.
In 1895 the nave was re-roofed at a cost of £450 and the north porch was added in 1912.
The font is 15th century however the carvings are believed to be later (19th century) although there are medieval faces on the underside of the font.
