NH7782 : Lion on the Cross

taken 4 years ago, near to Tain, Highland, Great Britain

Lion on the Cross
Lion on the Cross
The lion rampant, symbol of the Scottish monarchy, on the mercat cross at Tain. The finely sculpted capital is decorated with alternating thistles and shields displaying the Royal Standard of Scotland. James II founded the royal burgh around 1439, though the town claims its creation goes back to a charter granted by Malcolm III in 1066.
