Severn Bridge Junction signalbox Shrewsbury
Severn Bridge Junction signalbox Shrewsbury
Viewed from Shrewsbury railway station. Opened in 1904 in the middle of a triangular junction, Severn Bridge Junction signalbox controls the southern end of Shrewsbury railway station. Although reduced in importance after the closure of various lines and sidings, in 2013 the signal box houses a 180-lever frame, making it the largest remaining mechanical signal box on the British network. Since 2011 it has been the largest in the world after the closure of a larger signalbox in Melbourne, Australia.
