43-47 Spring Gardens, Manchester
43-47 Spring Gardens, Manchester
No. 47, terminating in a tightly curved corner with Concert Lane (which the listing likens to the prow of a ship), was built in 1881 for the Commercial Union Assurance Society (now occupied by Vivienne Westwood). The architects were Heathcote & Rawle. It has ornate dormers and a turret. Grade II listed.
Nos. 43-45 are at least a notch up the scale of opulence. They were built in 1888-90 for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank (now Rosso Restaurant and Bar). The architects were Charles Heathcote & Sons. A monumentally rusticated ground floor and extravagant upper floors garnished with columns, gables and a domed turret (SJ8498 : Detail of 43-45 Spring Gardens, Manchester). Grade II listed.
