On the outer wall of the tower facing the High Street can be seen a magnificent rendering of the arms of James IV, dated 1504, featuring "a spirited lion rampant within a double tressure having sixteen fleurs-de-lis. The unicorns are regardant, with spirally twisted horns, and are gorged with crowns composed of alternate fleurs-de-lis and crosses patted..." For more, see: LinkExternal link (page 80).
