Bassett's Pole Public House and signpost
Bassett's Pole Public House and signpost
The signpost marks the boundary between the counties of Stafford and Warwick. The inscription at the base of the signpost(Pole) reads: "On this site Lord Bassett of Drayton set up a boundary pole in the reign of King John and the year of Our Lord 1201". It is said that in the 18th/19th centuries the Pole was tall enough to be visible for quite a distance for travellers to find their way across the heath.
