J Brace & Sons Ltd, saw mills, High ongar - steam engine
A magnificent example of a Richard Garrett locomobile engine. Built 1912 and installed here secondhand in 1936. It was retired in 1975 and removed in 1983 to the Long Shop Museum in Leiston, where it was built. A large compound engine burning sawdust and rated at 100 horsepower at 150-165 rpm.

This shows the special external firebox for burning sawdust. The photograph well captures the ambience of this site and the engine is intact although disused.
