Gravestone of Olimpia de Say at Haughmond Abbey, near Haughton, Shrops
This is the gravestone of Olimpia de Say. There is an inscription on it. The gravestone is now displayed in the Chapter House. The body is presumably still buried where the gravestone was originally placed. The de Say family were descended from Robert de Say, also called Picot, a Norman knight who arrived in Shropshire after the invasion. He built Clun Castle. A descendant Helias or Hellias de Say was an early major benefactor of Haughmond Abbey. Olimpia de Say was presumably related to him, or perhaps his wife?
