High level platforms, Smethwick Galton Bridge station
High level platforms, Smethwick Galton Bridge station
These platforms are used by trains travelling between Birmingham Snow Hill and Stourbridge Junction (the view is along the line towards the latter). Below, approximately at right angles, is the railway line between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton, which has its own set of platforms. The station was opened in 1995 when the line between Smethwick West and Birmingham Snow Hill was reopened to passengers, enabling Stourbridge line trains to run to and from Snow Hill, thus easing congestion in and around New Street. The station is named after the nearby SP0189 : Galton Bridge, Smethwick.
