Birmingham Main Line Canal, Smethwick
Birmingham Main Line Canal, Smethwick
Looking towards Wolverhampton from the high level platforms of Smethwick Galton Bridge railway station. This is part of the New Main Line, built in a cutting to bypass Smethwick Summit which, with its six locks and narrow sections, was a serious hindrance to traffic along the Old Main Line. A surprisingly verdant scene, given the industrial character of the area.
