Carefully digging a trench under 'the bridges'
One man breaks the surface with a pneumatic drill while a small digger follows. The locations of all underground services are probably known from survey, nevertheless care is clearly needed. This normally busy crossroads is closed for the duration of the sewer replacement works in the area.
Local people call this spot the bridges although there is only one bridge now, carrying the former GWR line through Leamington. The parallel LNWR / LMS bridge installed in 1850 was dismantled in the late 1960s following the closure of the line from Rugby. The east abutment is seen on the left. The trackbed has developed into urban woodland.
