A plaque by the gate commemorates Charlie Gordon, a former co-organiser of the Carnethy Five Hill Race, which passes this point both on ascent and return. The plaque reads:

In memory of

CHARLIE GORDON

co-convenor Carnethy “Five” Hill Race
1971-1987

“A Braw Lad” to all his friends

The race is held annually in mid-February, so conditions can vary from benign to intimidating. It is now organised by the Carnethy Hill Running Club and more details are given at LinkExternal link.
