View of Edinburgh from Inchcolm Abbey
View of Edinburgh from Inchcolm Abbey
The view from a south-facing window in the canons' dormitory. Arthur's Seat and the Castle Rock can just be made out as prominences in the distance. The canons must have felt relatively safe on their comparatively isolated island, but there was always the risk of sudden danger from the sea, as happened when the abbey was attacked by English raiders in 1384.
