NO5116 : St Andrews Castle Fife
taken 10 years ago, near to St Andrews, Fife, Scotland
St Andrews Castle Fife
Although covered in scaffolding at the moment, the castle still gives an idea of what this promontory may have looked like in the past. This was the main residence of the bishops and archbishops of St Andrews – the focal point of the Church in Medieval Scotland. The visitor centre is worth a visit. A siege mine and counter-mine can be explored, and the ‘bottle dungeon’ viewed.
