Floating Harbour
Floating Harbour
View of Bristol Harbour from Redcliffe Way. The Floating Harbour gets its name from the fact that ships could unload without being grounded on the river bed, which had been the practice prior to 1809. William Jessop planned the works to impound the waters of the River Avon and its tributary the River Frome from 1804 and the harbour was completed in 1809.
