See J4187 : Town wall, Carrickfergus (3). This is the North Gate in North Street, Carrickfergus. It was erected in 1608 and restored in 1911 for the coronation of George V. J4187 : The North Gate, Carrickfergus (2) shows North Street and the North Gate in July 1982.
The town wall, Carrickgergus
Carrickfergus was founded by the Norman John deCourcy who built a castle there in 1180. The town wall, started in 1579, was completed in 1615. Some of it has long since disappeared, some is little more than a few stones and some has been restored.
