The land around Upper Midhope was purchased by Sheffield Corporation in the late 1800s
to form these reservoirs using the streams from the surrounding moors Edge Cliff Brook
Fenny Common Brook and Shaw Brook all supply Midhope Reservoir. The 'Run Off' water
joins the Little Don River - also known as the Porter - just before it enters Underbank Reservoir

However despite Sheffield Corporation owning the land, Midhope Reservoir was constructed by
Barnsley Corporation Waterworks. Construction started in June 1890 and was completed in June 1903
A plaque to this effect can be seen on the 'Run Off' exit building see
