The Tribunal 9 High Street Glastonbury
The Tribunal 9 High Street Glastonbury
Grade I Listed and Scheduled Ancient Monument The Tribunal is a 15th century house on the site of an earlier 12th century timber building. It is reputed to be the courthouse of the abbots of Glastonbury and was used during the Monmouth Rebellion trials by Judge Jeffries. The façade was replaced by Abbot Bere in the early 16th century. The rear room, typical of the time, was probably a free standing kitchen that was separated from the main building as a fire precaution.
