SE5396 : Track junction above Arns Gill

taken 10 years ago, 4 km SW of Chop Gate, North Yorkshire, England

Track junction above Arns Gill
Track junction above Arns Gill
At this junction one can go left to follow the moor towards Osmotherley Stones and Barkers Ridge or carry straight on to descend to Head House. The map shows a bridleway heading straight on from this point, keeping above the wall line and crossing the head of Arns Gill to climb to Wether Hill before descending to Chop Gate in Bilsdale. However, this route is like many on the moors, being almost invisible on the ground. Much easier to go left and follow a decent track to near Green Howe.
