Helpful sign on Bilsdale West Moor
'Beware Adders' signs are not that uncommon on the North York Moors and one is tempted to think that they are erected by gamekeepers to discourage people from wandering across the moor [which is open access land]. A glimpse of an adder basking on a sunny rock is a rare and special sight, but maybe the sign should read 'adders beware of people' as we are more of a threat to them than they are to us.
