A black pheasant in the Cambridgeshire Fens
Having lived and travelled extensively in and around the Cambridgeshire Fens and West Norfolk I was surprised to see this chap sitting on the bank of Bottisham Lode to the north of the village of Lode. I have never seen one before and didn't even know they actually existed. It would appear to be a Melanistic Mutant which has a very dark green plumage, see LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . They must be quite rare as there are only a few photos of them on The Geograph site.
