I came across this simple memorial
SK8043 : Lancaster Bomber Memorial, Staunton Churchyard located in St Mary's Churchyard Staunton. Inscribed on the memorial was the following:
To commemorate the lives of the crew of Lancaster W 4270, which crashed one mile North West of this site on the 18th of February 1943.
I have attempted to search for information regarding this crashed bomber and its crew, with no success. Do'es anyone know what happened to "Lancaster W4270"? Another plaque alongside the inscription list the names of the bomber crew and where they are buried:
WO2 T.H Warne, Newark War Cemetery
Sgt R.J Preece, Wembdon Churchyard, Somerset
Sgt J Coaker, Leusdon Churchyard, Devon
Sgt E.J Loverock, Matlock Churchyard, Derbyshire
Sgt J.M Milton Whitehead, Cambusnethan Cemetery, Lanarkshire
Sgt T.R Newton, Brandon & Byshottles Cemetery, Durham
Sgt G.A Hitchin, Padiham Churchyard Extension, Lancashire
My next port of call is Newark War Cemetery
SK8052 to try and locate the resting place of T.H Warne. Are there any Geographers located near the resting places of the other airmen? It would be nice to reunite them once again. Even if it is only by the use of geograph links.
