Chepstow High Street and Town Gate
Chepstow High Street and Town Gate
The Town Gate was originally built in C13 by Roger Bigod, 5th Earl of Norfolk. It was the only land entrance into the town. It has been repaired on numerous occasions and most of the present structure dates from C16.

In 1648 Parliamentarians led by Oliver Cromwell fought Royalists to gain entrance to the town at the Town Gate.
