Approaching Thatcham Swing Bridge, Kennet and Avon Canal
Before restoration of navigation on this part of the canal, the busy road southwards out of Thatcham had to make do with a swing bridge, although it was permanently set for the road, therefore did not cause too many problems. But the opportunity was taken to replace it by a fixed bridge before navigation started again. In this picture, Thatcham station, still with semaphore signals and a signal box, is seen on the far right.
