NX5161 : Hitlers Bridge

Hitlers Bridge
Hitlers Bridge
This carving on the parapet of a bridge over the old Dumfries-Stranraer railway line was reputedly made by a Polish stonemason during the war. It shows a little figure lying in a coffin with the inscription "Hitler 15.8.40" beneath. It would of course be almost 5 long years before this piece of wishful thinking came true.
